Prestopod launches Podcasting Service for Radio Stations
Free beta service introduces all-in-one solution for podcast creation, hosting, and distribution

The community of podcast listeners, estimated by the Pew Internet & American Life Project (April 2005) as over 6 million, is expected to grow dramatically after the launch today of Apple’s iTunes 4.9, which includes support for podcasts. Existing iTunes users and the estimated 22 million owners of iPods and other portable MP3 players are likely to try podcasts, which allow users to automatically download favorite radio programs and other audio files to be stored and listened to on demand.
For a limited time, radio show producers will be able to try prestopod for free. A simple set up process at www.prestopod.com will register beta users to have podcasts of their radio programs automatically created. Prestopod will host the podcasts, market them in podcast directories, and offer usage statistics to the show producers.

iTunes racks up one million podcast subscriptions
1 July 2005 - Podcasters are hailing the success of the new podcast support in iTunes, after more than one million podcasts subscriptions were recorded in its first two days.
August Trometer, developer of iPodderX, likened Apple to a high street coffee shop chain.
'Podcasting is like cappuccino,' he said. 'Gourmet coffee was around for a long time, but it took Starbucks to put it on the map. Apple is like the Starbucks of podcasting and advertisers will take us more seriously now.'
Will Lewis, management consultant for KCRW, said that Apple has achieved something that no-one else could have accomplished.
'Our servers have been swamped with a stratospheric increase in traffic,' he said. 'In fact, downloads have increased tenfold as a result of the iTunes 4.9 launch.'
iTunes enables users to find and subscribe to podcasts automatically downloading new episodes and uploading them to an iPod or iPod mini.
